NSRI Sea Rescue, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to saving the lives of people in South African waters. It is able to accomplish its mission through a number of activities in three areas: rescue, prevention, and education. One of the programs under their educational arm is water safety talks.
Initiated in 2006, water safety talks are conducted during school visits made by NSRI Sea Rescue members. During these visits, children are taught how to avoid danger in the water, how to safely conduct a rescue, and how to perform CPR on a drowning victim. The interactive presentation, which includes a hands-on demonstration of practical skills, is done for free. Since its inception, the program has educated nearly two million children across South Africa.
