Johannesburg Children’s Home is a nonprofit organization that houses children between the ages of 3 and 18 in need of care. Johannesburg Children’s Home currently houses 64 children total and cares for children from a diversity of backgrounds. The children housed at Johannesburg Children’s Home have suffered abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment prior to being taken in, and some are HIV positive. The charity places up to 10 children together in each of its cottages.
The state subsidy that Johannesburg Children’s Home receives for each child covers only about 11% of costs, so the charity relies heavily on donations. Money donated to Johannesburg Children’s Home is spent primarily on electricity and water, food, and repairs and maintenance, with smaller amounts of money going to school fees, fuel and transportation, and clothing for the children.
